SERV
"The Bloodrunners"
SERV is a registered charity (284455) formed in 1981 that delivers blood and blood products to hospitals free of charge.
SERV volunteers are on call from 7.00 pm to 6.00 am 365 nights of the year to deliver emergency blood products from the National Blood Service Units to hospitals.
SERV at National Speed Trials, Brighton - 13 September 2008
A control room receives calls from client hospitals and co-ordinates all runs, with a pool of riders and drivers, to ensure that safe delivery is made as promptly as possible.
SERV answers over 1000 emergency calls each and every year.
All SERV riders, drivers and volunteers receive no payment whatsoever for providing this service - not even expenses!
The charity relies wholly on its own fundraising and on donations to sustain this vital service.
The control room, safety equipment and communications equipment all cost money to buy, run and maintain.
